KEVICC ICT Department Website
A warm welcome to the KEVICC ICT Department website. Over the next few months we will be expanding these pages to include lesson resources, student work and some exciting ways to stay in touch with each other on the internet.
Staff team
The department consists of 3 full-time teachers (incl. HoD) and 3 part time staff (whose combined contribution is approx. 0.5 of a timetable). The department works as a team and is committed to high standards of learning and teaching. Staff are supported in developing their skills. They are also encouraged to take some responsibility for an aspect of the work of the department The ICT department meet regularly. There is an ongoing programme of training.
Accommodation
The college has six dedicated network rooms, four on the Redworth site, one on the Elmhirst site and one in Kennicott (sixth form). The department is well resourced with every room having a mono and colour printer, scanner and interactive whiteboard projectors and speakers. Many departments have their own smaller clusters of network stations.
Network Resources
The College operates its ICT Network to meet the needs of students, teachers and administration staff. The network manager leads a team of four technicians. Each of the 3 parts of the campus are linked with fibre optic cable to enable a single whole college Network. There is an 8meg Internet feed and every network station has a filtered access to the Internet. All staff and students have their own email address.
The network is currently has a 'Server 2003 R2' plus admin and curriculum stations running Windows XP and Microsoft Office.
Shared Access
KEVICC has a school portal using MS software which allows students and staff internal and external access to resources and email. The college is currently exploring options for a suitable VLE which is intended for implementation in 2008-9. The HoD will be a major contributor to these decision-making process. The ICT department will be expected to lead the way in developing learning resources for all its schemes of work.
